Description

This antique Edwardian silver sovereign case features an overall engine turned design with a blank cartouche to the top.

The sovereign case is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1903, and the maker Williams (Birmingham) Ltd. There is a full set of marks to the case top and a partial set to the other half. The suspension loop also carries the lion standard mark.
The hallmarks are clear albeit a little rubbed.

Williams (Birmingham) Ltd operated from Goodman Street, Birmingham. They traded between 1902 and 1929.

The sovereign case is 3 cm (1.2") in diameter, excluding the suspension ring, by 1.5 cm (.55") deep. It weighs 17 grams.
All measurements are approximate.

The silver is in very good condition. The case catch works well and the spring mechanism is in good working order. There are some "pocket rash" surface dings commensurate with age and use.
