Antique Victorian silver vesta, 1898

Description

Antique Victorian silver vesta, with floral engraved decoration.

The vesta is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1898, and the maker John Gammage.
The hallmarks are all clear and readable. The initial part of the maker's mark was not stamped square so is missing the outer edge, but it is still clearly discernable.

The vesta is 2.5 cm (1.") wide by 4 cm (1.5") high, excluding the suspension ring, by 1 cm (.3") thick. It weighs 11 grams.
All measurements are approximate.

The vesta does have overall "pocket rash" - surface scratching and shallow dents on all sides. All wear is commensurate with age and use.
The lid spring is broken so it does not snap shut. The lid is a tight push fit and does remain closed.

Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
