Description

This smaller size Edwardian cigarette case features a quadrant sunburst design to the front radiating from a blank cartouche. The back has a full sunburst design radiating from the centre. The interior is plain gilded.
The design has a very "art deco" look and feel, but the workmanship dates to twenty years earlier than normally associated with this movement.

The cigarette case is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1903, and the maker Horton and Allday.
All hallmarks are clear.

Horton and Allday worked from Warstone Lane, Birmingham, and Poland Street, London.

The cigarette case is 5.5 cm (2.25") wide by 8.5 cm (3") high by 1 cm (.3") thick, and it weighs 75 grams.
All measurements are approximate.

The cigarette case is in very good condition. There are no noticeable dents and only minor surface wear for its age. The gilded interior is very slightly tarnished. The hinges and closure clasp are tight and work well. There is no "smiling" when closed. The interior cigarette retaining band is missing.
