Antique silver sugar caster, Chester, 1903

Description

Antique silver sugar caster.

The sugar caster is hallmarked. All marks are rubbed but still readable, except the makers mark which can only partially be seen.

The marks on the body identify the piece as having been assayed in Chester in 1903. The maker's mark looks to be two sets of initials, one above the other, in a shield shape outline. The second set of initials is "WD".
The top carries a partial set of matching hallmarks - the lion rampant for sterling silver and the date letter "C" for 1903.

The caster measures 6 cm (2.25") at its widest by 17 cm (6.75") tall. It weighs 106g.
All measurements are approximate.

Apart from the rubbed hallmarks, the caster is in very good condition. The top is a tight fit to the bottom part. There is no splits or repairs. There is the merest hint of a shallow depression to each of two of the top panels piercings.

Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
