Description

A fine original, early 17th century map of Middlesex on hand laid paper with later colouring based on the survey by John Norden, engraved by William Hole, and published in William Camden’s Britannia (London, 1607-1637). The map contains a decorative title cartouche with the county name ‘MIDDLESEX OLIMA TRINOBAN TIBUS habitata’ top left, compass rose top right and key bottom right.

The plate number 17 engraved in bottom left of the image is indicative of the 1637 edition.

Condition: Though not removed from its frame the map appears to be in good antique condition with a uniform patina. The attractive giltwood frame has been touched up in a few places with gold paint and is ready to hang.
