Description

A good collection of 15 early to mid 19th century plaster intaglios acquired during the Grand Tour and presented within a late 20th century gilded frame. They cover a variety of subject matter including scenes from classical mythology as well as busts of 17th and 18th century eminent people and are attractively displayed against a black fabric covered backing board. Eight of the intaglios are edged with black card while the bust of the pope has a brass frame, the remaining six, however, lack a protective edge covering.

Dimensions: Height 47 x Width 39 x Depth 3 cm
Largest individual intaglio 10 x 10 cm, smallest 2.5 x 3.5 cm

Condition: Intaglios are in good antique condition with some typical minor damage evident. The bust of the Pope Clemens XII appears to have been repaired which may indicate the reason for the finely chased brass surround. With eye-screws and brass wire provided on the reverse it is ready to hang.
