Description

A vintage Chinese altar cabinet beautifully crafted from solid huanghuali (or huang huali) wood, comprising a top with scroll ends over a single drawer and a cupboard with double doors fitted with brass handles and flanked by stepped spandrels, all standing on square section feet.

The Chinese term huanghuali literally means "yellow flowering pear" wood. It is a member of the rosewood family and, as in the case of this cabinet, is attractively figured and often with a reddish-orange colour.

Though probably only 50 years old this piece is extremely well made, even the back is panelled in huanghuali wood. Its small proportions means that it can fit into most spaces where it can function as a side or lamp table with the added advantage of possessing useful storage space.

Condition: Excellent without noticeable marks or repairs. Though of small size it is quite heavy due to the density of the hardwood.
