Description

A stunning Japanese Meiji period hardwood cabinet bearing eight panels inlaid in relief with bone and mother of pearl representing animals including birds, butterflies, a snail and a crab on foliage bearing flowers, leaves and fruit. The cabinet comprises an arrangement of sliding doors, open shelves and niches, and drawers standing on ogee bracket feet. The detailing in the Shibayama work and the naturalistic arrangement of the various elements are exceptional.
