Description

An original Japanese woodblock print from 'One Hundred Aspects of the Moon' c.1886 by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) purchased from the Japanese Gallery in London about 40 years ago. This image of a samurai on horseback is called 'Moonlight Patrol', No 8, and depicts SAITO Toshimitsu reconnoitring in the Kamo river near Kyoto before the attack on Oda Nobunaga's headquarters.

Blank verso with the exception of a small seal mark in dark blue ink at bottom right. Hand-made paper with fine vertical lines throughout.

Dimensions: Paper - 36.2 x 25 cm

Condition: The print is in good antique condition without tears or repairs and with even patination. Margins are present including the left margin with seal and censor marks. It is presented behind an old black mount to which it is attached at the top by two pieces of tape and backed by card with hand written label and ink stamp for the Japanese Gallery.
