Description

An antique Indian Nagina carved ebony stationary box of elongated octagonal form in excellent original condition.

Dating from the mid to late 19th century this box originates from the northern province of Uttar Pradesh in India. The box is made from ebony which has been exquisitely carved on the top and all four sides with geometric and floral patterns by Muslim craftsmen.

There is a plain brass escutcheon, brass lock and the lid opens on two brass hinges. It features a (sort of) working key which locks easily but is more fiddly at opening.
