French Burr Maple Piano-Shaped Work Box, c.1820

Description
This is a delightful antique French Palais Royale work/sewing box in the form of a miniature Grand Piano, circa 1820. Veneered in burr maple with mahogany borders and an inlaid keyboard of ebony and bone, it stands on five turned ebony legs. Fitted with brass escutcheon and working key, the lid opens to reveal a mirror to the inside of the lid and blue velvet covered trays. The tools are sadly missing with the exception of a silver thimble which has probably been added later. A rare survival is the shaped silk covered padding which sits over the trays and protects the mirror when the lid is locked. Below the trays are holes where a music box would have once been fitted.Dimensions: Width 30 x Depth 19.5 x Height 16.5 cm
Condition: The box is in good antique condition with marks commensurate with its age. None of the inlay is missing but there are two old repairs to the mahogany apron.
Postage & packing: £10 within the UK.
