Description

This is a highly decorative and sought after mid-17th Century engraved copperplate map of the Channel Islands showing Guernsey, Jersey, Sark & Herm with the Royal Coat of Arms at top left, decorative cartouches for the scale bar top right and for the title bottom left, together with several sailing ships. Titled " SARNIA INSULA Vulgo GARNSEY et INSULA CAESAREA Vernacule JARSEY " it was published in 1659 by Johannes Blaeu.

There is text on the reverse of the map but as the map has not been removed from its frame we have not ascertained the language.

Condition: The map has not been removed from its frame but appears to be in good condition, with good margins and an even discolouration. It has a centre fold as issued and the colouring is early. The frame is probably about 40 years old and of good quality.

Postage & packing: Due to the fragile nature of the glazing it is recommended that this map is hand-delivered by our trusted delivery man. The charge is £50 to most places on mainland England and Wales.
Alternatively, if the frame is not required then the map can be removed, rolled up and sent in a cardboard tube for £6.
