Description

This is a copper engraved map in outline colour of Grande Tartarie by Alain Manesson Mallet (1630–1706) a French cartographer and engineer for 'Description De L'Univers' published in Paris, 1683. This example is from the German edition.

It is an interesting map of the Great Tartar region, extending from Russia and the Caspian Sea in the West to China, Korea and Japan in the East.

Condition: The map is presented in a gilt frame with green mountboard. It has not been inspected out of the frame but looks to be in good antique condition. There is some discolouration.
