Description

This is an unusual pair of 19th century Chinese red lacquered and gilded cylindrical wood carvings. Though clearly a pair the carvings differ from each other with chrysanthemums on one and peonies on the other. Birds in different attitudes of flight are also represented in relief. The correct way to view the carvings is from the tapered end rather than the flat end which may provide a hint as to their original function. Even without this knowledge these carvings can be appreciated for the skill of the carver, their decorative appearance and tactile nature.

Weight: 619 g and 608 g

Condition: The carvings are in very good antique condition with minimal losses to the relief carving. The gilding of the surfaces in relief is a little rubbed in places commensurate with its age. Please contact David on 07931 370372 if you would like to see additional photographs.

We have a trusted delivery man who is a experienced in transporting antiques, pictures and fragile items. He can deliver to most places on mainland England and Wales and, depending on where he is on his schedule, it may take a few days or up to 4 weeks. Other couriers are available for Scotland and North Wales or where a shorter time frame is required. Purchases can also be collected in person from the Tunbridge Wells area in SE England.
