Decorative original copperplate map of the Isle of Wight (Insular Vectis) by Johannes Blaeu dating from the 1650's.

Early colouring. Plate impression is clear.

In a Hogarth style frame which dates from circa 1900. No mount. Old label for the framer on reverse together with another label confirming that it is an original mid 17th Century map.

Four coats-of-arms (top left), an ornate title cartouche flanked by deer and water birds (bottom left), a mileage scale (bottom right) with several galleons in the sea areas.

Dimensions: Frame 22" x 17 3/8" cm (56 x 44 cm)

Weight: 2.1 kg

Condition: The map has been removed from its frame and inspected. Overall it is in good antique condition. There are some minor issues including a water stain affecting the title cartouche bottom left, small foxing spots though none of these are significant, minor creases down centre fold and some discolouration particularly on the reverse from contact with the hardboard. There are no tears. The frame is in good condition for its age.
