Description

This is a decorative hand-coloured copper engraved map of the Caspian Sea by Emanuel Bowen (1694 - 1767) from 'A Complete System of Geography' published in London in 1747. It covers the entire sea with various regions identified including Ghiwie, Usbeck, Corasan, Shirwan, and Astrakhan. It has one decorative cartouche, a compass rose and a mileage scale. The full title reads: "A New and Accurate Map of the Caspian Sea, Laid down from the Memoirs of Soskam Sabbas a Georgian Prince, assisted by some late Improvement by Eman. Bowen."

Condition: This is a good clean example with a uniform patina.
