Description

This is a superb pair of Japanese box shaped hibachis in figured elm with copper linings dating from early to mid 20th century. Each hibachi is beautifully constructed using a combination of dovetail and dowel joints, and on two sides there are fan-shaped inset handles framed in elm. There is an attractive variation in colour with areas containing burr knots having a lighter colour compared to the straight grained elm. The bases are more simply finished containing a pine panel supported within a moulded edge in elm.

These hibachis would look fabulous on a kitchen worksurface where they could contain herbs or potted plants or, alternatively, be used for storing jars for spices, pasta etc.

Dimensions: 26 x 26 cm square x 23.5cm height
Weight: 3.13 & 3.10 kg to give a total of 6.23 kg

Condition: The hibachis are in excellent condition, just a couple of small and insignificant shrinkage splits. The copper linings are marked from use and there is some oxidisation of the surface which has turned them partly turquoise.

Postage & packing: £20 within the UK. Please contact us for a postal quote if you reside overseas.
