Chinese Campaign-style carved camphor wood chest

Description
This is a Chinese brass-bound and finely carved camphor wood chest of relatively small proportions, Qing Period late 19th century. The top is decorated with a spitting carp and a dragon flying among clouds whereas the front depicts a dragon and a phoenix in the clouds. The sides are more simply decorated with a floral motif while the back is plain. There are Campaign-style flush brass handles on the sides and a further flush handle on the lid at the front with a circular brass escutcheon on the box below. The design is quite unusual in that it has both brass fittings and carved top, front and side panels and it may, therefore, be intermediate in age between the plainer Campaign-style chests typical of 19th century and the more intricately carved chests of 20th century which generally lack the brass fittings.
Dimensions:
Width 75 cm
Depth 35 cm
Height 30 cm
This is a smaller box than most though still useful for storage. It could be placed below a side table in a reception room or for storing clothes or handbags in a bedroom
Condition: The chest is in very good antique condition with marks and some wear commensurate with its age. There is some colour variation partly due to uneven wear and partly to the natural variation in the camphor wood. An eye is missing on both dragons.
Postage & packing: This can be boxed and sent by courier for £20 within the UK Mainland.
