Carved coquilla nut snuff box, French c.1830

Description

This is a superb coquilla nut snuff box with a charming naïve design of two kneeling female figures in a forest on the lid, the first figure holding a cross while the second holds a book (the Bible?) or box, and a cornucopia of flowers on the base, probably French early 19th century. The flattened cylindrical ends of the box are carved with stylised flowers and leaves. The box contains an old shop label which indicates that it was once priced at £375.

Condition: This snuff box is in lovely antique condition with no observable cracks or losses. It has an attractive colour and patina.
