Description

This is an exquisitely carved Swiss made glove, or stationary, box dating from the turn of the century, circa 1900. It is a versatile little box which could be used on the dressing table to contain necklaces for example.

The top, which simply lifts off, has a beautiful scrolling decoration with the scrolls appearing to intertwine with each other and is a tour de force of relief carving. This is surrounded by a border of 4-petalled flowers within diamonds. The sides of the box are more simply carved with a curving fluted design.

The wood is probably Linden wood from the lime tree.

Dimensions: Width 33 cm - Depth 10 cm - Height 6 cm (13 x 4 x 2 1/2 inch)

Condition: The box is in excellent condition and the top fits snugly on its base.
