Description

This is a small, dark coloured bronze of Michelangelo's David, probably produced in Florence for sale to a visitor undertaking the Grand Tour in the 19th century.

It closely follows Michelangelo's original depicting a nude David prior to the battle with Goliath, with his left hand holding a sling that is draped over his shoulder and down to his right hand, which holds the handle of the sling. Interestingly, the hands seem to be in better proportion to the rest of the body compared to the original statue.
