Framed set of antique Italian plaster intaglios

Description

This is an attractive set of plaster intaglios / medallions / cameos acquired in Italy during the Grand Tour in the early to mid 19th century displayed in a hand-finished box frame.

There are 17 intaglios in total and they range in size and shape and subject matter from Roman Gods to putti to contemporary celebrities. Several of the intaglios are named including Giovanni Belzoni, Tibare (Roman Emperor), Napoleon Francois Joseph and Rogerius Bacon (with monk's attire). Four of the intaglios have the sculptor's name in smaller letters below the bust.

Dimensions: 44.5 cm x 38.5 cm 4 cm depth

Condition: They range in condition some display fine detail while others are somewhat rubbed. The frame appears to be about 40 years old judging by the style of frame and the rusting of the pins on the backboard.
