Description

Genuine antique map of Staffordshire by Saxton / Kip probably from the 1637 edition of William Camden’s “Britannia” which was first published in 1607.

There is an attractive strapwork title cartouche top right with a further strapwork cartouche bottom right containing a list of 'Hundreds'. A pair of dividers occupies the bottom left corner. The map is orientated with north to the right.

Centre fold as published. It has later hand-colouring and recently been framed in fine quality gilt and black moulding with archive-quality green mountboard.

Dimensions: Frame 56 x 46cm Image 37.5 x 26.5cm

Condition: The image is strong and generally in good condition. There is some overall discolouration as you would expect in a map which is 380 years old. There is an old crease running diagonally centre left and there is some staining on and below the title cartouche. The map has not been removed from the frame to inspect the margins but there are no visible tears or repairs.

P&P: It will be put in a large box with plenty of wrapping. Charge for sending within UK is £10.
