Description

This is a fine example of Rigobert Bonne and G. Raynal’s 1780 map of the southeastern United States, including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

It was drawn by R. Bonne for G. Raynal’s Atlas de Toutes les Parties Connues du Globe Terrestre, Dressé pour l'Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Établissemens et du Commerce des Européens dans les Deux Indes.

It offers an interesting post colonial perspective of the region extending westward only to the Appalachian Mountains. Names numerous towns and ports along the coast as well as several inland river systems. Identifies Port Royal, Beaufort, Savannah, Charlestown, Cape Fear, Wilmington, Cape Hatteras, Hartford, and Williamsburg. American Indian nations in the interior are noted, including the Creek.

Condition: Excellent, bright and strong impression with a clear plate impression in the thick paper. Mounted within a green mount with gold line and recently framed in good quality giltwood moulding, it is ready to hang.
