Regency Mahogany Tea Caddy Of Sarcophagus Form

Description

This is a nice quality Regency period mahogany tea caddy of sarcophagus form and possessing a rich colour. The top and front are inlaid in ebony and other woods and all edges are inlaid in ebony. The lid opens on two brass stop hinges to reveal a fully fitted interior comprising two lidded compartments flanking a glass mixing bowl. The internal lids are also inlaid with ebony stringing forming a diamond pattern within a frame of boxwood lines. The diamond pattern is replicated on the underside of the external lid. The metal caddy spoon is a later early 20th Century addition advertising Melrose's Teas with a moulded date of 1912. The caddy stands on its original brass ball feet. Circa 1820-30.

Condition: This caddy is in very good condition. The only fault is a small length of missing ebony edging on the back of the caddy (right side)
