Description

Decorative original copperplate map of Brecknock by John Speed published by Richard Chiswell and Thomas Bassett, Fleet Street in 1673.

Titled "BREKNOKE Both Shyre and Towne described Ann. Domini 1610"

As the map had not been removed from its frame until recently the colouring is presumed to at least date from the time of framing which is believed to have been in the late 19th Century.

Coats-of-arms dominate three corners, a mileage scale is positioned bottom right and a town plan of Brecknock is located top right.

Dimensions: Paper 21 1/2" x 16 1/2" (54.5 x 42 cm)

Image 20" x 15" (51 x 38 cm)

Condition: The map is in excellent condition. The colours are bright and there is little sign of discolouration except at the extremities of the sheet. There are no tears and no old repairs. It is attached to a thin cardboard mount which I have not removed. The margins are wide and have not been cut down. There is the odd spot on the map but overall it is very clean.
