Description

Exquisite French enamel on ceramic of St Fabiola, after Henner, signed by the artist, of large size in a contemporary wide oak frame, dating from the Early 20th Century (probably 1920's).

The artist, J Borel, has signed the work on the bottom right just below the image.

It is a beautiful depiction of St Fabiola in enamels and closely honours the iconic profile created by Jean-Jacques Henner in 1885. The original of this idealized portrayal of the saint was lost in 1912 but the image was copied by artists around the globe in the following century. This example is one of the larger images that were made.

Nicely framed in a contemporary wide and deep oak frame.
