Description

Tall pair of antique Chinese bamboo brush pots dating from the Late 19th to Early 20th Centuries. They have a lovely colour and patina. These are particularly fine examples with very detailed carvings of figures (scholars) in a bamboo forest in the top half of the pots, with further figures in and around a pagoda surrounded by large trees in the bottom half.

The work is so intricate that a number of the bamboo trunks are carved all the way round and are only attached to the pots at their tops and bases. You would be hard pushed to find better examples of carving on brush pots than this pair.
