High quality Ancient Greek Apulian epichysis


Description
A high quality Apulian Gnathian ware epichysis with shiny black gloss over the whole surface. The vessel is decorated with elaborate geometric and floral decoration rendered in maroon, white and yellow pigments. A moulded lion-head terminal has been placed at the point of separation between the handle and the pouring spout, to further enrich the composition.Greek Apulian South Italy: Circa 330-320 BC.
Complete and intact in Very Fine condition

An epichysis is a kind of jug with a squat body, a high slender neck ending in a pinched beak-spout tilted sharply upward, and a high raised handle that slightly protrudes from the spout. Epichyses were used to serve wine or to fill oil lamps through their accurate spout.

TimesAncient guarantees all items to be authentic and to comply with the description provided in relation to broad age and culture. Upon satisfactory evidence from a recognised authority, an item found not to comply with this guarantee of authenticity can be returned to TimesAncient by the Buyer for a full refund including return shipping costs.
