Description

An Etruscan statuette of Herakles (Hercules), the mythological hero standing naked except for the lion pelt, drawn over his head, the paws knotted at the neck, the skin draped and wrapped over the left arm, the clutched hand pierced, the right arm raised, probably for wielding a club, the slender well-muscled figure stands with weight resting on the right hip, the left foot forward. The figure stands on a modern Perspex display stand.

Late Etruscan period, circa 4th-early 3rd Century BC.
Very Fine condition no signs of repairs or restorations with attractive olive-green patina throughout.

Height 10.8 cms (4.25 ins). Height with stand 12.7 cms (5 ins)

Heracles was especially popular with the Etruscans, his bronzes were placed as votive offerings in temples, especially in the region of Umbria.
