Antique Havila pocket watch, c1900.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely.

The movement is signed Havila and it has the brevet (or patent) number 9293 which relates to an 1895 patent in the name of Paul Mieville.

Havila was founded by Constant Houriet-Gindrat who established his watchmaking factory in Tramelan in 1884 and registered it the following year. The Tramelan-based manufacturer produced movements for pocket watches in the early 20th century but unfortunately disappeared during the crisis of the late 1920s.

The watch measures 58mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and was supplied by the Birmingham case maker Aaron Dennison. It is in good condition with just light surface marks, nothing too serious at all.

The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.

The signed dial is in very nice condition, one very faint short hairline by the sub seconds dial but virtually invisible to the naked eye. Blued steel hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
