Antique silver half hunter pocket watch, Fattorini
Description
Silver half hunter pocket watch, Fattorini, Bradford. The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, probably by Tavannes, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1928, with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison, the Birmingham based case maker and supplier to various watch makers. The case is in good condition, a light 1cm scratch to the front and gentle unevenness to the back.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. The front cover opens to 120 degrees rather than the usual 90 degrees but it is stable.
The dial is signed Fattorini & Sons, Bradford.
The Fattorini family were well known in the watch trade. The company was established in 1827 by Antonio Fattorini and his four youngest sons subsequently ran the three branches in Skipton, Bradford and Harrogate. These three branches went on to become run independently of each other and they then became the future inheritance of the sons concerned.
The dial is in good condition with blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
