A boxed Black Basalt Stratton compact mirror. This is such an unusual accessory. The lid of this unused Stratton powder compact is fitted with the original Black Basalt plaque featuring Aurora, Roman goddess of the dawn, in her chariot pulled by two magnificent steeds across the sky. Aurora wears flowing classical robes and a half moon diadem in her hair. This lovely collectible will not tarnish or need to be cleaned, as the maker applied a coat of lacquer in the final stages of the its crafting. The whole vanity is in superb condition and the original accessories are present - presentation box, pouch, sifter, puff and protective powder well insert. The mirror gives an excellent clear reflection. The catches and hinges work exactly as they should. The base is decorated with stars and signed Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND. Measures 3 1/4 inches diameter and weighs 109.5 grams.
