A superb Art Nouveau French antique fully hallmarked silver locket with a 24 inch sterling silver necklace. Repoussage scrollwork and splendid Dianthus adorn both sides of the locket. Dianthus, also known as pinks / carnations, have deep Christian symbolism. Christian legends assert that when the Virgin Mary grieved for her son her tears fell on the earth and carnations sprang from the wet ground.

This piece is in excellent condition. No dings, dents or damage. The interior contains an oval recess in which to place a photograph. Contained in the recess is an ancient piece of velvet. The other recess is fitted with the original bevelled mirror surrounded by a fine gilt twisted rope bezel. The mirror gives an accurate reflection. The mirror has the charming appearance of an ancient mirror - with some haze at the outer edges. Nothing that detracts from this outstandingly beautiful locket and so much better that this item is completely authentic.

Old silver has immense charm when it develops the most enchanting patina. Both the silver locket and necklace do indeed have the most pleasing deep patina whilst still retaining the shine of silver.

The locket opens and slides shut perfectly.

The pendant is quite large and so the 24 inch necklace is ideal, as when worn it will rest just between the breasts. More of a classic look than having a large pendant worn much higher up the decolletage.

The locket and necklace are presented in an antique leather clad case which is lined with crimson velvet and silk. The catch and hinges work perfectly.
