You will probably have seen this model before but you will not see another better than this. It is possible to find 'collector's pieces' in superb condition, which have been adored for many years. However, it is only on rare occasions that mid-century vanities are found in factory fresh condition. NOS (new old stock) condition - it is such a delight to view and handle this hand painted enamel powder compact. This Stratton 'Scone' loose powder compact has the most lustrous cobalt blue enamel with five hand painted flamingos adorning the lid. The enamel is highly reflective, even with the dull over head shot (image two) it still catches the light and looks glorious. A special & highly collectible 'Bird Series' compact which comes with all the original accessories. On the first image some reflections are showing on the top right hand side. The photographs do not do the compact justice. It is splendid! Even the presentation box is in super condition. The bottom edge of the box is stamped 'F.M. FLAMINGO 543/20'. Not only has the box protected the compact for almost seventy years but it has also been kept in such a way as to ensure its good condition too. The pouch is made from thick, good quality felt. The puff & sifter are pristine. The puff bears the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo & 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND' in gilt letters. The whole compact was lacquered at the point of manufacture and so it will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. The deep golden brass gleams. The compact opens to reveal an excellent mirror with the original mirror sticker which reads as follows: 'To open inner door press mirror lid gently back: door springs open. To shut: bring mirror lid forward and press door down. A STRATTON Patent.' The inner lid is decorated with the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo & 'Stratton' engraved in elegant script. The powder well is lined with a protective immaculate white insert. The underside of the inner lid is satinized, giving this wonderful 1950s accessory a luxurious appearance. The base has a fine spiral engraved on it - which is typical for the 'Scone' model.

This NOS Stratton powder mirror measures 7.5 cm and weighs 93.5 grams.
