Description

A wonderful and unusual sterling silver framed jewellery or trinket tray from the highly esteemed Victorian silversmith, William Comyns.

The tray is clearly hallmarked for London 1886. It is diamond-shaped: the frame is heavily decorated with acanthus swirls, a pie crust edging to the bottom and a beaded top rim to the top. The silver is in excellent condition. The slightly faded silk insert is frayed in places - hardly surprising given its age. It is also removable, meaning that there are none of the usual silver polish stains on it.
