Victorian Burr Walnut Three Door Fitted Breakfront Wardrobe
Description
A fabulous Victorian breakfront fitted wardrobe of super quality and possibly by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow. Featuring well figured bookmatched burr walnut veneers to the front and sides and crisply carved acanthus leaf & harebell carved corbels. The rounded moulded double cornice above three fielded arched panelled doors, the central door with original bevelled mirror, and all standing on a plinth base. The interior fitted with various graduated drawers with ash linings, two long hanging sections and a hat or short hanging section to the centre, all with original gilt brass & porcelain hooks. Stamped ‘37907’ to reverse. In very good condition and rare to find with the burr walnut side (the sides are usually finished with straight grain walnut), with original locks and a working key, the interior lining fabric has been partly removed revealing a pencil inscription referring to Wylie & Lochhead, one hook has lost a porcelain top, there are some small chips/veneer loss to the bottom of the left side just above the plinth. The sides have had front-to-back extending hanging rails but these can be easily replaced with side-to-side hanging bars if required.

Wylie & Lochhead
The Scottish partnership of Wylie & Lochhead was established in 1829 as a firm of general upholsterers, furnishers and funeral undertakers at 164 Trongate in Glasgow. A good reputation and skill for introducing new styles of furnishings led to early success and the firm quickly became a household name with showrooms, factories and warehouses throughout Glasgow and branches later established in Manchester and London. The firm held Royal Warrants as cabinet makers and upholsterers to not only Queen Victoria, but also the Prince of Wales, King Edward VII, King George V and King George VI and it was Wylie & Lochhead who furnished the Royal Suites for the Glasgow Internation Exhibitions in 1888, 1901, 1911 and 1938.
