Description

Fine and genuine example of a Senufo bed (Possibly African Sapele wood) more commonly known as a ‘gbag’ from south coast of Western Africa - Côte D'Ivoire, Circa 1900.

Every Senufo village had a gbag, The high importance of these objects relates to when a new village was founded, funerals could not be celebrated before the carving of a gbag was ordered by the chief.
Recent examples of these beds have realised over £26,000 at auction recently.
