Description

A superb Victorian oak open bookcase in the Gothic Revival style, very much in the manner of Pugin. The boldly carved frieze lifts to reveal a hidden storage compartment, a charming and practical period feature. The bookcase offers two bays with eight adjustable shelves, each with ribbed fronts and fabric lining, and is flanked by carved pillars — one concealing an additional set of three hidden shelves. Raised on a stepped plinth and finished in warm, well‑figured oak, this is a striking and versatile piece, ideal for a distinguished book collection or curated display.
