Description

A fine late 19th century bronze depicting Joan of Arc as a teenage spinner girl with a spindle of yarn at her feet before her transformation into the most famous of French heroines.
Before her calling, Joan was a typical country girl carrying out chores for her mother and father including tending to animals, working in the fields and spinning wool.
The bronze by Laurent (1832-98) shows Joan with her head tilted upwards, receiving divine inspiration and symbolises the moment of her calling to become the saviour of France.
