Antique from Between 1780 to1800 Finely Carved Bovine Back or Wig Scratcher

These are usually found in very poor condition, so I was delighted to find this one in very good shape.

The long flexible column with the hand carved with historic repairs to the index and little finger, mentioned purely for accuracy.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, courtiers in Europe who wore powdered wigs and elaborate costumes apparently resorted to decorative back scratchers to reach their itches in as subtle and dignified a manner as was possible given the circumstances.

Very good condition, measuring 18 1/2” in length.
