Description
A lovely carved Italian cassone on hairy paw feet . It has an interesting carved front with a resting man and a pair of fauns.We believe the bearded gentleman is probably the god Silvanus the god of nature, and the fauns ( half man half goat ) represent forest nature and landscape,there are also grapes . The carving is of good quality . The front and lid are walnut and the back sides and bottom are pine .This would look great at the bottom of a bed or as a stand out piece in most places.DateEarly 18th Century :
