Description

An exceptional English enamelled glass vase.
This highly decorative, large exhibition quality enamelled glass vase is a superb example.

The vase is made from pale grey glass with a pinkish tint and stands on a flared foot with a short stepped stem. The body is baluster shaped and balanced with a narrow neck which flares out to the rim.

The vase is exquisitely decorated with a naturalistic scene with a nicely detailed chiffchaff bird dropping down, most likely to a hidden nest into the undergrowth with bright flowers and foliage.

The decoration is extensive, unlike most examples, which tend to have a small front and perhaps a back panel. This is almost continually circulating all around the vase.

The enamelling is beautifully hand painted in bright translucent colours with thick solid highlights, which would have created a lot of work for the artist, as each colour of glass enamel has to be fired separately.

The vase is finished at the top and bottom with a gilt and black lined boarder centered with a string of white enamel beading.

The vase is in excellent original condition with no wear, damage or restoration.
