Description

A naive pair of portraits on tin depicting two characters from village life. The first shows a male in a tall hat with a broom, the second the village drunk. In the background the village pub and figures can be seen going about their life.

By repute the paintings were deaccessioned from a museum in Macclesfield as it turned its focus to silk work from rural life. The previous owner has had them in their private collection for the last ten years. They were housed originally in contemporary black museum frames and were placed in birds eye maple frames by the previous owner. The frames are just very slightly different sizes.
