Description

A pair of mid-20th century Chinese Goldfish or Koi Carp Bowls / Jardinieres raised on hardwood stands. These large porcelain bowls are decorated with an embossed blue ground patterned with trailing white flowers interspersed with gold banded decoration around four panels, two of which are floral panels including birds and butterflies interspersed by two scenes one of a lady receiving a visitor or emissary, and on the other side is a gentleman being served a drink from an attendant with a tray.

The interior of these bowls is also of a highly decorative quality, depicting charming scenes of small birds and cranes (associated with longevity, immortality and wisdom) among long-stemmed peony (the imperial flower) and lotus which justify using the bowls purely for their visual impact.

The bowls and stands are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips.
