Description

Victorian Silver Lid
Birmingham 1900
Maker's mark rubbed but probably made by Levi & Salaman.
Decorated with Reynold's Angels.

Reynold's Angels is the name given to a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds first exhibited in 1787. It shows five different angles of the head of five-year-old Lady Frances Gordon. It captured the imagination of silversmiths around the turn of the 20th century who used it to decorate their silverware.

Approximate dimensions diameter 7cm, weight 32 grams.
Unfortunately, the glass jar that it sat on is no longer but this lid is in great condition.
