Description

This is a fine pair of hand coloured engravings by Francesco Bartolozzi after Angelica Kauffman. The engravings depict two beautiful scenes from the classics one of Diana and others with Cupid in a landscape where Cupid has had his arrows taken and is tied to a tree, and the other of Cupid sleeping, looked upon by two figures who appear to be trying to wake him. The engravings which date from the early 19th century have a great depth of colour and are in excellent condition. They are mounted in their original circular gilded frames measuring 38 cms in diameter which set them off well.
Provenance: These were previously sold as part of the Stanstead Country House Sale at Sothebys in 1999.
