Description

A quite spectacular late Victorian Sheraton Revival satinwood cabinet, originally built to house a safe, but now having two shelves fitted to the upper cupboard section to facilitate use as a drinks or other storage cabinet. The bow front cupboard opens with a beautifully crafted button catch mechanism, and features an inlaid oval panel to the front below this are a pull-out slide and three graduated drawers with brass drop handles and original Chubb locks. The cabinet is raised on a plinth base. Of the highest quality throughout, this cabinet was undoubtedly supplied by one of the great makers of the period, though unfortunately bears no stamp or label to reveal which.

Condition and Details of Restoration
This item is in original untouched structural condition, apart from the handles which are later replacements of the period style. The polish has been refinished, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. As might be expected on an example of this age, there are some old marks underneath the polish, but all extremely minor in this case. As mentioned in the description, the two shelves to the interior of the cupboard are later additions, but could easily be removed should the prospective purchaser wish to use the cabinet for its original purpose of housing a safe.
