Description

A quite exceptional mid Victorian burr walnut library table or bureau plat, of English construction although in the French taste. The top has serpentine shaped edges with an ornate chased brass gallery, a wide kingwood cross band, and a central burgundy hide writing surface, flanked by two oval burr walnut panels profusely inlaid with finely detailed hand-cut floral marquetry inlay. The frieze has a single central drawer and brass mask mounts to the front and rear. The table is raised on square section tapering cabriole legs with brass mounts of the highest quality. All in all, a quite magnificent example of 19th Century furniture making.

Condition and Details of Restoration
This table is in original untouched structural condition. The polish has been re-finished, the brass cleaned, and the genuine cow hide hand-stained leather inset replaced, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some exceptionally minor old marks underneath the polish.
