Ko Imari Chrysanthemum and Rocks meisen-de Kraak style dish- 1780. A good quality Arita moulded dish with barbed rim - lotus form - with a kraak style pattern in reverse. This design is called meisen-de in Japan. The shaped reserves are decorated with precious objects, manji and an amorphous object with leaves. The reserves are set against an interlocking diaper painted in reverse, symbolising long life. The central motif of rocks, chrysanthemums and peonies are in a stylised abstract form. and again symbolise longevity and prosperity. A fuchi-beni iron brown glaze has been applied to the rim. The reverse is plain but it is possible to see faux chattering and there are 5 spur marks in an X formation, suggesting it was fired at the Higuchi kiln in the Nangawara Valley
Condition: Generally good, although there is a filled chip to the rim and a hairline crack.
